The commonplace, where opinions are nothing but the illusion of knowledge and a narrative of repeated confusion, of known tales and smelly thoughts. Its only aim is to influence you negatively and mould your opinion. How simple it is to indulge in such petty matters and place yourself in an endless state of mental bondage.

The commonplace has much to offer the mind, such as scandal, infighting, lies, slander, jealousy, insults, toxic relationships, ruthless influences and a good dose of phony news. A state of emptiness and ineffectiveness for the individual. We find ourselves deceptively allured; rushing toward illusion, drawing deplorable conclusions, thus defeating future our success.

Lift your thoughts above the commonplace, think about noble things, pulling people up with you. What will happen if, for a solid week, you fill your life with purely the best? Outstanding literature, wine, conversations and excellent books. See a sunrise and a sunset. Attempt to crowd out of your life, unworthy thoughts and unworthy acts. If you would surround yourself with the world’s excellence, you can be a King and Queen!

I am reminded of the worldly admonition of St Paul in the book of Philippians;

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”

Best,
Marcus
