You have the power and the choice to let go of things that aren’t serving you well. Yet, often suggestions are made that you can’t do without these things in your life because it will make you to be unhappy. You then become reluctant to cut the ‘umbilical cord’ that keeps you attached to these things.
Let’s be clear, if something it’s not serving you well, it’s abusing you, whether – physically, financially or mentally, and negative emotions become a constant companion in your life. Negative emotions affect your decisions, behaviour, and performance. It causes you to regress. Negative emotions narrow your thinking. It limits your interpretation of events and you retreat from opportunities and reaching personal goals by disengaging from the things that matter.
The things that matter, like personal motivators that can get you to a goal, get pushed back and you begin to resist reaching your goals because the motivation to turn you away from your goals become stronger than which draws you to it. I have spoken to various people who in the past have disengaged, and they have told me that when they disengaged, they felt a strong sense of personal irrelevance setting in and they were unable, many times, to make valuable contributions at work or in their personal lives.
You play a vital role no matter where you are, and you want to be at your best. To be at your best, let go of those things that don’t serve you and embrace the things that do. When you do, you will think clearly and deeply and manage your emotions better.
You will feel the effects of positive emotions.
- You will be a more rational and creative problem solver

- You will be more willing to try difficult things and develop new solutions
- Your behaviour will be more engaging
- You will take more risks
