Often we freely give the thinking responsibilities to the so called ‘wise people’, or we become followers of people who impress us as individuals of enormous possibilities.

We get absorbed in their opinions, which leads us to believe everything they say. It seems nothing eludes their vision. They seem to have intelligence that is grandiose; a power that is extraordinary; they seem to know everything, to have read everything, to have seen everything. But somehow they are forever disappointing our expectations. They raise great hopes for us only to dash them.

They are people of great promise, but those promises never come to pass. Yet, we continue to believe that their opinions are true despite the evidence to the contrary. This is because we have stopped trusting our own human reasoning. We have stopped investigating things for ourselves and uncritically accepted their dogma as true.

We have to begin to think for ourselves and unlearn what we have been led to believe and regain our common sense and, many times, our dignity. One way of doing this is to learn and master the skills of critical thinking. Critical thinking skills provide a bedrock for problem solving and decision making in all areas of life. When people use critical thinking skills in life and in their jobs, a whole new world of possibilities emerges. People move forward. Companies move forward.
