I have a question for you. Can you recall who you were before society dictated your path and telling you who you should be? Do you remember the genuine dreams and aspirations that were deeply rooted within you? Perhaps you envisioned yourself as a farmer, a preacher, an archaeologist, a ballet dancer, a lecturer, a missionary, a doctor, a game ranger, a businessperson, a public speaker, a politician, a lawyer, a writer, or an entrepreneur. These desires likely represented your innate talents and passions, the very essence of your being.

But then, societal pressures intervened. People, with their ‘infinite wisdom,’ dismissed your dreams, labelling them as unworthy or impractical. You were told that your interests were too unconventional, that you lacked the intelligence, height, skin colour, gender, physical appearance, religion, sexual orientation, or financial means to pursue them. You were advised to follow family traditions, avoid bringing shame upon your family, or abandon your aspirations altogether.

Many of us succumbed to this societal conditioning at a young age. However, I want to remind you that your passions are persistent. They continue to call out to you, a quiet voice urging you forward. When you recognise and embrace these inner desires, you experience a sense of contentment and fulfilment. It’s common to hear people say, ‘I should have pursued this or that, but I ended up doing something else.’ But it’s never too late to reclaim your original path. Embracing your true passions can bring you a profound sense of peace and prosperity. Numerous individuals have successfully transitioned to fulfilling careers, proving that it’s never too late to follow your heart.

Best,
Marcus van Wyk
