A frog arrived at a riverbank one morning. As he was getting ready to cross to the other side, he heard a voice behind him. The frog turned around and there was a scorpion. The frog felt a little nervous.

“Hello frog, please don’t be alarmed. I can’t swim and was hoping you would give me a ride on your back to the other side.”
“Sure, but how do I know you won’t sting me?”
“Frog, really? It will be to the detriment of both of us, wouldn’t it?”
“I guess you are right. You seem nice enough. Ok, hop on, let’s go,” said the frog.

The scorpion jumped on, and the two set off to the other side. Halfway across the river, the scorpion stung the frog.

“Scorpion!” said the dying frog. “Why did you sting me?” The drowning scorpion shrugged. “It’s in my nature, frog, it’s in my nature.”

The wrong that looked so right has stung us all. Has it not?
